The end of July in Chicago always means a few things; 1. The essence of Summertime Chi is in full bloom. 2. The lakefront is packed with beach goers, tourists, bike riders, runners, and barbeque enthusiasts. 3.. There is a festival every other day. 4. The news unfortonuately highlights the various shootings throughout the city. 5. WGCI finds a way to pack out the United to give the young and young at heart a concert experience that takes them away from the everyday of living in the city of wind.

The latter has now become a Chicago ritual. The only thing that tends to change is the line-up of artists slated to tear the roof of the place that Jordan built.  That’s Michael Jordan for those that may not be up on that G.O.A.T talk.  Back to the lecture at hand…

July 26th the WGCI what they always do by hosting a soldout crowd at their annual Summer Jam.  This year’s concert featured some of the names in Hip Hop; Big Sean, Trey Songz, Moneybagg Yo, YFN Lucci, Lil Baby, Famous Dex, Kash Doll, C Dot Huncho and Queen Key. For those in attendance, the lineup did not disappoint.  Speaking of those in attendance, it was definitley a Chitown groove as twerking, juking, popping, stepping, and every other that defines The Go was on full display as the WGCI DJ’s kept the party going between gets. Sean Mac had everybody doing their best karaoke of Tevin’s Campbell’s, “Can We Talk” and turning up to Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know,” as he did an job of blending the old with the new.

Charmaine and DJ MoonDawg

Of course The Morning Takeover crew, consisting of Kendra G, Kyle Santillian, and Leon Rogers, held down the set as the featured hosts.  As always,WGCI personalities, Frankie Robinson, Tone Kapone, Charmaine, Trey White, DJ MoonDawg, Keke, and Jamal Smallz did their thing as well.  When WGCI hosts a party, you can tell the personalities enjoy their jobs because they go hard and they energy is all in as the crowd always responds accordingly.

The crowd showed love to not only WGCI’s best but also to all the artists as well. They knew every word to every song almost making it too easy for the artists to just relax and let Chicago’s young and the restless takeover.  All kidding aside, Queen Key didn’t come to play, as she showed why Chicago is truly her Queendom. C Dot Huncho had all the dread heads in the lobby partying while Famous Dex had this daugther on stage turning up with the crowd. The ladies seem to love YFN Lucci and Kash Doll definitely represented for all the boss chicks in the .  “Yes, Indeed,” Lll Baby had the crowd bouncing to him and Drake’s radio smash.  Moneybagg Yo brought his rich southern swag to the stage and Trey Songz, well, he was Trey Songz and the ladies went absolutely ape sh*t!  He performed with a live band which was a great to the show.  As always, he took off his shirt, the ladies responded.  He sang about sex, the ladies responded.  He went through a slew of his many hits, and the entire crowd rocked with him the entire set.  He was definitely the highlight of the show.  Last but not least, Big Sean closed out the show and he didn’t disappoint.  Big Sean showed the youngins what an emcee does on stage by rapping all his vocals live. He also displays a humble confidence that keeps the crowd engaged.  He said he “f8cks with Chicago,” and in true Chitown fashion, Chicago returned the sentiment.

All in all, it was an incredible evening for those who were lucky enough to attend. You could see the sense of joy and excitement on everyone’s face as a good time was all that seemed be on the minds of Chicago’s best.  WGCI can add another notch to their belt as being true connoisseur of Summertime Chi. As long as there is a  summer, WGCI will find a way to rule it.
