Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine's new album Dummy Boy has been upgraded to the top of Billboard's album sales chart this week, dropping Travis Scott's Astroworld. Nielsen Music, which powers various Billboard charts, had reported uncovered discrepancies and miscounts in album data totals as of 12/4. The mistake has since been corrected and the numbers updated.
Drew Bennett at Nielsen commented:
“Our team has done a deep dive and found the cause of the initial discrepancy… We've since then reprocessed the jobs necessary and re-finalized the charts. As a result, 6ix9ine's DUMMY BOY will be moving to #1… Our team is working quickly to identify the root cause of this discrepancy to ensure that we get it right the first time.”
The discrepancy so far seems to be due to SoundCloud's late reporting, whereby streams that would have boosted 6ix9ine's numbers were not counted as part of the total.
