Black-ish Creator and Girls Trip Writer Kenya Barris Is Leaving ABC, Eyeing Big Netflix Deal

, the creator and showrunner for the hit comedy ‘’ and the writer of the critically and financially successful ‘Girls Trip’ is leaving ABC as he’s negotiated his deal to end in August.

Barris may be eyeing nine figure deals from multiple studios including where (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal) and (Glee, American Horror Story) each signed lucrative deals.

Signing with Netflix may give Barris the creative freedom he’s looking for as he’s had various television series (Bright Futures, Libby and Malcolm, Unit Zero and an Alec Baldwin Family Comedy) passed on or cancelled due to various reasons.

The creator already has projects in development with Netflix, including a film.  He also has an active film deal with Fox, so he won’t be taking it easy once he leaves ABC.
