Apple Music today announces Island Records artist Dean Lewis as its latest Up Next artist.
For the last two and half years, Apple Music’s Up Next emerging artist program has been spotlighting rising talent from around the world. Today, the ARIA winner and most Shazamed artist in America brings his melodic sound to Apple Music’s global audience and joins the ranks of fellow Up Next alum like Billie Eilish, Juice WRLD, H.E.R., Bad Bunny, Khalid, Daniel Caesar and fellow Aussie Amy Shark.
“It’s such a huge honor to be chosen as the newest Up Next artist! Out of so many artists, I was blown away they decided to choose me,” said Lewis. “It’s been a long journey – developing as a songwriter in Australia, to touring and meeting fans from all around the world. With my debut album around the corner, I’m very excited to share my story with the support of the entire Apple team.”
“We’ve had Dean Lewis on our list for a while,” said Apple Music Creative Director and Host Zane Lowe. “It wasn’t about whether he should be an Up Next artist, it was simply a case of when. Dean writes songs from a relatable point of view, a universal language that people live through every day. He can take that sentiment and turn it into something romantic, and he has a lot of confidence in his writing. We’re excited to shine a global spotlight on his music and bring his voice to a wider audience.”
In the exclusive Up Next film shot entirely on iPhone XS and available on March 26, the Sydney musician and members of his family talk through his journey, from his first guitar and the moment that changed it all, to his “perfectionist” approach to creating his passionate, down-to-earth debut album. “I’m not trying to get across some sort of message or statement,” he tells Apple Music. “I’m just literally trying to write the best songs I can write. It’s all that matters.” Fans can tune-in to Lewis’ late-night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 18 and go to Apple Music to Pre-Add Lewis’ first full-length studio album, A Place We Knew, out March 22.
