Atlantic Records has a roster full of talent. In my opinion, Atlantic Records is one of the only labels who is keeping up with the new digital age. With social media playing a huge part in any job related to entertainment, A&R's are taking note of that while in search for the next big thing.
Atlantic Records took their first step in this direction after signing Cardi B. Cardi had a loyal following on her social media prior to fame. That made her more marketable as an artist. 3 years later, she's a hit.
Now Atlantic recently signed another female rapper and former Love and Hip Hop NY cast member, Dream Doll.
Dream Doll worked as a bartender at the popular strip club, Starletts. She then was cast for Bad Girls Club season 16, then appeared on Love and Hip Hop NY season 8.
Last month, Atlantic Records tweeted the announcement of their new signee. Since that day, the Cardi comparisons have been non-stop. Dream has 1.4 million followers on Instagram and rumors to be dating Takeoff, one of the members of the Migos.
This all seems a bit too familiar. But hey, if they turned one reality star into a mainstream artist, they can do it again.
I believe that one of three things will happen:
- Dream Doll will be the new big star and everyone will forget about Cardi.
- The two labelmates will FINALLY be the change that needs to be seen between female artist in hip-hop. (#StopTheBeef)
- None of the above
