Sony Music Latin and The Orchard has signed a worldwide distribution deal with Jenni Rivera. The deal was to cover the late singer’s catalog.
Rivera was a Reginal Mexican singer, songwriter, actress, and TV producer. She is known for her work in the Banda and Ranchera music genres. The late singer died in a plane crash in December 2012. She was 43.
Rivera released 12 studio albums and four live albums between 1999 and 2012. Five of the albums reached the top slots of Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. Her popularity rose after death, having two compilation albums and four additional live albums reach No. 1 on the Top Albums chart. Those albums were released in the four years following her passing.
Sony will be working with her brother Juan River and sister Rosie Rivera on keeping her legacy alive. They hope to reach new audiences and to continue to make history with her legacy.
As part of the deal, a campaign will be established to push Rivera’s music and give it a new shine. Her music and catalog were previously distributed by Universal/Fonovisa, but Rivera kept control of her masters throughout her career.
