The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) has announced that Ken Smikle, an expert on African American marketing, advertising, and media, passed away at age 66 on September 12th, 2018 after a period of brief illness.
Ken was the founder and President of Target Market News, covering advertising, marketing, and media news targeted towards black consumers. It additionally publishes ‘The Buying Power of Black America,’ an analysis of African-American consumer spending choices over hundreds of goods and services, and it distributes news and information over its website, news bulletin, and conferences.
President of NABOB, Jim Winston, said:
“This is a great loss for our industry. Ken frequently appeared on panels at NABOB Conferences to bring us important advertising industry insights… I routinely called Ken for answers to questions about advertising issues. He always had useful information.”
Winston further added “I also considered Ken a good friend. After we finished discussing business we would talk about whatever was going in the world or in our lives. I will miss him greatly.”
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Chicago Temple First United Methodist Church.
