Meet SiriusXM’s 2019 Top of the Country Contestants

32

It’s that time of the year again!

Sarah Burke here from SiriusXM Country.  Perhaps you’ve heard one of my interviews with a Canadian country artist on SiriusXM CH. 171 in studio or live from an event. I’m both a music programmer and a host, and as much fun as it is to play music for you while letting you get to know incredible Canadian artists, the best part of the gig is watching emerging country artists get to the NEXT level in their careers.  That could mean taking the stage at a big festival or playing an intimate studio session, and it’s different for every act.  I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I was to see Andrew Hyatt take the next big step in his career after winning our first Top of the Country competition in September 2018.  This was moments after we announced he was the winner during Canadian Country Music Week for the CCMA Awards.

Top of the Country

Well, good news.  I’ve been biting my nails for awhile here waiting to tell you who made the cut! Last month we opened submissions for our second annual nation-wide Top of the Country competition.  It’s back! The winner will win $25,000 along with bookings at big country music events and SOCAN songwriting camp. We’re hosting studio sessions in Toronto and Vancouver where YOU get to help us choose who should be a finalist through online voting. The three Top of the Country finalists will perform during The CCMA’s Country Music Week in Calgary leading up to the winning announcement!  For now, we’ve got eight incredible acts lined up and I wanted you to get to know ‘em a bit more. In no particular order:

Dan Davidson

Dan Davidson is from St. Albert, Alberta.  It’s not like he’s NOT a great singer or songwriter (because he’s both), but his live show is SO engaging.  If you’re not familiar with his latest country music, perhaps you remember his former rock band, Tupelo Honey?

Don Amero

Don Amero is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and recently signed with MDM Recordings.  He’s such a great storyteller with six albums under his belt including his latest, Evolution which was released in 2018. His voice is smooth like butter. Right?

Kelsi Mayne

From Windsor, Ontario, Kelsi Mayne has some KILLER pipes.  She’s played some of Canada’s biggest country music festival stages and just made her big-screen debut with the International Film Festival playing the title role in an adaptation of Stephen King’s Willa.

Jade Eagleson

Jade Eagleson was raised on his grandparent’s farm in Ontario and will remind you of a young Johnny Cash or George Jones in moments.  He recently stole hearts at Boots & Hearts music festival where he performed in an emerging artist showcase and leaving a lasting impression.

Kristin Carter

Originally from White Rock, British Columbia, Kristin Carter is a choir-girl turned country-pop sensation signed with Dallas Smiths’ Steelhead Music Inc.  Her energy is contagious and you’ll agree the second you see her sing.

Matt Lang

Matt Lang is a St-Hyppolite, Quebec native who’s teaching everyone in Nashville how to speak French…kidding.  Well, he could be! He just released his self-titled and first English EP building on the success of earlier French releases.

Sons of Daughters

Sons of Daughters are Chrystal Leigh and Jimmy Thow from Vancouver, BC, and they are now based in Nashville, Tennessee and signed with Open Road Recordings.  They’ve been slowly but steadily building their audience from the Bluebird Cafe to rowdy bars across the home of country music.

Tim & The Glory Boys

Tim Neufeld & the Glory Boys (who are Colin Trask, Matt Stride, and Jon Mushaluk) are based in Abbotsford, British Columbia.  They began making music in the Gospel, roots & bluegrass space and they’re new album ‘The Buffalo Roadshow’ has lead them here!

Listen live to SiriusXM Country now.
