Sade releases new track called “The Big Unknown”
The great Sade has released a new original song entitled “The Big Unknown” as a part of academy award-winning British director Steve McQueen’s latest film Widows.
According to Sony Music UK, Sade wrote “The Big Unknown” specifically for Widows’ final scene. Label executives said Steve McQueen worked with Sade, encouraging her to “dig deep” to come up with a fitting song about loss and survival.
Sade's new song ‘The Big Unknown’ speaks to the film’s spirit, but critics say it still has that classic Sade sound. Record execs hope the song stands out as another bold and brilliant work from the legendary songstress.
“It was an honour to work with such a legend. Sade is an incomparable talent and incredible artist who so rarely releases new material, but luckily the original series of Widows had deeply resonated with her,” Steve McQueen told Los Angeles Times recently.
“The Big Unknown” lyric video features McQueen’s cool contemporary Chicago scenes as a beautiful backdrop to lead character Veronica’s (Viola Davis) contemplation of a future unknown, and the dark times that led to that moment.
The Widows’ Original Motion Picture soundtrack album features Sade’s “The Big Unknown” and Nina Simone’s “Wild Is The Wind” alongside an intimate score by Academy® Award winner Hans Zimmer.
The Big Unknown was composed by Sade Adu and Ben Travers, and produced by Sade, Ben Travers and Aaron Taylor Dean.
Widows will be released across the USA on Friday, November 16.
