Warner Music Group acquired X5 Music in 2016. The company is based in Stockholm, Sweden and specializes in the digital music download market. The X5 licenses music rights from recording owners to create playlists and products for streaming and download. Their portfolio currently contains 400 000 recordings, and over 11 000 digital albums in a wide range of genres, marketed and sold via online music stores such as iTunes, Amazon, Google, and Spotify.
Enberg commented on the promotion:
“I’m proud to work on behalf of a diverse range of artists and songwriters to help give their music global impact with new fans. Today’s always-on streaming culture presents new opportunities to experiment and cater to a variety of musical tastes and attitudes, and I look forward to leading X5 through its next phase.”
Enberg’s promotion follows in the wake of his co-founder, Johan Lagerlof, who left the company.
