Will Spotify Buy Part of Universal Music Group?

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek Won’t Comment on Universal Deal Negotiations

There was an interesting no comment during Spotify’s earnings results conference call this week.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek did not specifically answer a reporter’s question about whether Spotify is considering buying a major stake in Universal Music Group.

However, Ek did say this.

“I can’t make any comment on any deal negotiations at this point,” said Ek.

Universal Music Group is expected to put part of its company up for sale in the next several months.

Meanwhile Ek and CFO Barry McCarthy spoke about growth areas for Spotify. They are specifically targeting podcasting.

“We’re in the early days of podcast marketing,” Ek began. “Non-music content has an important place” in the company’s future plans,” Ek concluded on the matter.
